Last Saturday wrapped up the 2012 Track season. Addysen competed in the final conference track meet. The top 2 athletes in each event from 8 schools in our conference were chosen to compete. Unfortunately for Addysen, she had to run preliminary races for the 100m, 200 m hurdles and the 200 m dash. She qualified for the finals in both hurdle races.
Despite severe shin splits for the past several weeks, Addysen managed to place 4th in the 100 meter hurdles. She was really disappointed that she didn't place in the top three (which would have earned her a medal) but we reminded her that most of the competitors were 8th graders and she should be happy to even be there.
After a few minutes of pondering that, she said, "That means they will all be gone next year so I have a better chance at placing!"
Sometimes, all it takes to change our attitudes is a quick shift in perspective.
