The title of this post is in honor of my "Words with Friends" games that I am playing with my siblings and spouse. Of course, my spouse and brother cheat...but we won't go there right now. That is really all that has to do with this post...
Yesterday was the funeral of Sister Pat Fulkroad, a lady in our ward who passed away much too young. I was helping in the kitchen (or at least, attempting to help) and had Cambrie and Kenzie with me at the church. They were supposed to be in the nursery watching a movie.
Imagine my surprise when the door to the nursery came flying open and Kenzie came charging out...pulling Cambrie...a STARK NAKED CAMBRIE, I might add...by the hand...heading straight for the gym where all of the mourning family and friends were eating.
Lucky for me, I have cat-like reflexes and I quickly scooped up my daughter by her bare naked little bum, (all while she giggled and laughed her charming little head off) and transplanted her back into the nursery where we promptly redressed her in a dress without SNAPS. (Nope, that darling little Gap dress with snaps down the front will no longer be a part of her wardrobe!) She was put into a pretty little pink number with buttons all the way up the back!
It was a nice idea to think that I might be able to help at the funeral...but who was I kidding? My girls know how to open doors. They were well behaved...but without other kids...they weren't interested in staying in the nursery by themselves.
Oddly enough...2-YEAR-OLD-STREAKER wasn't listed on the program as part of the luncheon entertainment.
We quickly packed up and headed home for naps.

FIVE
It's good that Kenzie is too young to realize that her birthday sort of got squeezed into the midst of a million other things. It was a crazy, odd week. We had our normal busy schedules...school, church, sports...
Then we had dentist appointments, doctor appointments, taxes to finish, our anniversary and the pinewood derby. And sadly, in a strange turn of events, we had two ladies in the ward pass away last week. That, combined with my Sacrament talk on Using Time Wisely made for an exceptionally tiring week.
Somehow though, we managed cake and a birthday celebration on Sunday afternoon with Grandma and the Beards. Kenzie was a happy birthday girl and it all worked out. We are so thankful for our little Kenzi Cola and the joy she brings into our lives on a daily basis. We told her that Saturday night was her last night to disobey...that 5-year-olds were never naughty. Unfortunately, that "teaching" didn't stick with her...she did ok yesterday but it was all out the window tonight at Cannon's baseball practice.

Some kind of beautiful
It may be March and I may be more than sick of this weather...but I would be crazy not to appreciate the beauty of my drive home last Friday. It really was amazing.
Interestingly, the same drive home today...was not the same sort of beautiful. The snow is already melted. The ground is a muddy mess. This road that had me so mesmerized on Friday...did not have me quite so enthralled today.
But soon enough, it will again. Soon enough, these trees will be bursting will blossoms and color and new signs of life. I can hardly wait to welcome Spring!

Seriously Mother Nature -- ENOUGH
Mother Nature - do you hate us? Heaven knows, my comments about you and how you roll in Ohio have not always been, shall we say, kind, over the years. I am willing to apologize...or even repent, if necessary.
But seriously, this is getting old.
As if one ice storm a few weeks ago wasn't enough...you sent two. Just when we managed to dig out the driveway to the point of seeing pavement again...you sent snow.
And more snow.
And more snow. (see post below.)
And then it rained.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that 3 inches of rain, on top of 8-12 inches of snow on top of frozen and saturated ground...well that just doesn't make for a pretty picture.
And that is exactly what happened last weekend.
It seemed almost surreal to be awakened to lightening flashing in my bedroom in the middle of the night in February. The wind was howling and we a full blown thunderstorm brewing...right after the blizzard that we'd had a week ago Friday. Then when Addysen woke me up to say that school had been canceled again...this time to due severe flooding...well, I didn't know what to think.
Actually, my first thought was that the board of education people must have lost their minds. And then I went outside. As we drove around, I quickly changed my tune. Entire yards were under water. Cars were stuck and roads were closed. As we drove around, we concluded that school was closed because a) the schools got water in them or b) the buses couldn't get down many of the roads because of so much water.
As it turned out, both scenarios were true. The Middle School had 4-5 inches of water in the basement and school was canceled for two days. The highschool parking lot was under water. The street in front of the bus garage had up to 4 feet of water and people had to be taken out of their homes by boat. As we drove around -- in shock at the amount of water - - Greg said, "has anyone been in our basement today?"
We were lucky. No water for us. Many ward members weren't so lucky. Through the amazing process that is the church organization, we quickly identified 6 families which had been flooded - -anywhere from 4 inches to 3+ feet of water. One families entire neighboorhood was under water to various degrees. Some people had to deal with sewer back up as well. Talk about a mess.
So, we spent the week helping where we could...and making mental notes:
*Clean out the basement
*Throw away a bunch of STUFF
*Put the important things in plastic bins and up high (several of these families have been flooded before...and even had their stuff up high and in plastic bins...but they didn't have their stuff 2 feet off the ground...who plans for that much water?)
*Call the insurance company to find out exactly what our coverage is-- most of the flooding this week didn't happen in flood zones.
It shouldn't take a tragedy to put some of these thoughts into actions...and yet...
In light of the events of the past week, did we really have to wake up today to more SNOW?
Mother Nature, how about a break?
I mean, after all...this is Cleveland and we're still reeling from The DECISION.
